Functions and responsibilities of the Coordination and Requirements Section include:
- Coordinating mapping activities with Federal, State, and local governments and the private sector in the 10 Mid-Continent Mapping Center states.
- Determining and analyzing users’ requirements for mapping, derivative map products, and spatial digital data.
- Establishing cooperative agreements for map and digital data production with interested agencies and coordinating the development of innovative partnerships between these agencies.
- Conducting research and resolving difficult problems involving cartographic and geographic data.
- Assisting and informing Federal, State, and local agencies and the public through presentations and demonstrations on the National Mapping Programs and the activities of the National Mapping Discipline.
- Serving as the coordinator when approached by governmental agencies and the private sector who possess non-National Mapping Discipline digital data.
- Explaining the role of the USGS in the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and related Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) activities.
