Historical land-use data from the twentieth century was used as input to the SLEUTH land-use change model, a Cellular Automata model developed by Keith Clarke at the University of California at Santa Barbara, to produce projections of urban expansion in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Abstract:
These are scanned historical topographic maps of the twentieth century that represent the Delaware Water Gap watershed and some areas immediately surrounding the watershed, due to overlap of quadrangle and watershed boundaries. Parts of the watershed are depicted on 10 15-minute and 23 7.5-minute topographic maps. Not all published editions of these maps were available, and thus included in this database.
Purpose:
This data was developed to study long-term land use changes as a factor in environmental monitoring. This data set has also been applied to research in water quality, land use change, and temporal GIS studies.
