RevPG Installation Version 5.3
Installation of RevPG is fairly straightforward. RevPG is
a collection of Arc Macro Language (AML) programs and menus,
with a few C executables and calls to the operating system.
For AMLs and menus, the search paths are set through the use
of the &AMLPATH and &MENUPATH AML directives. Paths for the
executables and system calls are set to a specific RevPG system
directory. Your own operating system search path will be used if
the RevPG software is unable to find the executable or system call
in the RevPG search directory. These paths are set up expecting
the RevPG directory structure to be specific. The basic RevPG
structure has not changed significantly from earlier versions;
however, there have been some additions to the structure.
RevPG may be installed locally, on the network, or run from a CD. The only
requirement is that the directory structure must not change.

Install RevPG
Create a directory on a server or workstation to
store the software. For this example we'll call it myrevpg.
For installation from
- CD: Copy the contents of the RevPG directory
to the myrevpg directory.
- a self-extracting WinZip file: Unzip the file to the
myrevpg directory.
- a tar.gz file: unzip the compressed tar file. Un-tar the
file to the myrevpg directory.

Files to Modify
There are a couple of files in the site directory that will need to be
modified for site specific information.
- site.dat contains the installation site name, RevPG version
tag as set by the RevPG OPR, path to the problems directory, and a place
holder for possible development of an EPSOUT path. The
default problems directory is under the users RevPG working directory.
See RevPG System Design Changes
for information on the working directory.
If you choose, you can set the directory to be a central location where
all users have write access. All problem reports generated from RevPG
will then be submitted to a central place. The reports are date and time
stamped for naming and tracking.
- resfonts.txt contains a list of Arc/Info font reference numbers
and names. This file allows the user to select fonts that are resident on
your plotting device during postscript creation. If you do not have fonts
resident on your plotting device, remove or rename this file. If you only
have a few fonts resident, edit this file to reflect your site. If you do
not want to worry about resident fonts, remove or rename the file. The result
of not specifying fonts as resident is that fonts will be contoured during
postscript file creation. Each character will be outlined and then filled in
the postscript file, causing the font to be slightly bolder in appearance. The
output postscript file will be larger with contour versus resident fonts. The
default treatment in Arc/Info is contour.
Files to Copy
RevPG uses several custom fonts stored in the symbols directory. These fonts
are the point marker symbol definitions used for screen display and plotting. If you
experience problems getting marker symbols to plot correctly, copy the custom fonts
- fnt034
- fnt036
- fnt039
- fnt040
to your Arc/Info installation under the igl63exe directory. You must have administrative
permissions for the Arc/Info installation to do this.
Text Fonts
Fonts supplied with the Arc/Info package do not meet all the requirements for USGS
Part 5 publication standards. To enable RevPG to produce standard Part 5 topographic
maps, several fonts must be added to the Arc/Info fonts directory. The Arc/Info fontindex
file, located in the locale/c directory of the Arc/Info installation, must be updated to
reflect these additions. See Arc/Info Setup for more information.
The following list includes all necessary fonts. The Part 5 feature list
that the font is used to annotate may not be complete, but is provided for your reference.
