DLG-E Sampler dataset caveat considerations:
(1) The Digital Line Graph - Enhanced (DLG-E) Sampler
contains prototype datasets produced by the U.S.
Geological Survey. DLG-E is an enhanced version of the
current DLG-3 spatial data model. DLG-E is a new
approach to structuring geographic data to more fully
support increasingly complex Geographic Information
System (GIS) applications and the many other diverse
needs of spatial data users.
(2) Users of the DLG-E Sampler data are advised that the
datasets include the full suite of DLG-E model
components and constructs (as described in USGS
Circular 1048, published in 1990). Data collection,
digital revision, and mass data conversion
incorporating all the elements of the model is cost
prohibitive at this time. It is expected that the
implementation of the DLG-E spatial data model will
evolve over time to support more of the functionality
in the original model design.
(3) The DLG-E Sampler datasets were produced to demonstrate
a proof of concept for the DLG-E spatial data model.
In addition, the datasets were used to test the
elements and functionality of the prototype production
system.
(4) The USGS has elected to distribute the DLG-E Sampler
datasets that include the full suite of model concepts
in order to receive user feedback on the data model
concepts and data content.
