6. Cadastral Data Transfer Profile Utilizing SDTS
Intended Use --
The Cadastral Data Transfer Profile will support the vendor-neutral transfer
of cadastral data that
complies with the FGDC Cadastral Data Content Standard. This profile will accommodate
survey data from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Automated Land and Mineral
Records
System (ALMRS). The Cadastral Data Transfer Profile is not strictly a new profile of SDTS, but
is a mechanism for the exchange of cadastral information using a combination of
SDTS and three
other FGDC standards. Developers hope to take advantage of the existing Topological Vector
Profile (TVP) of SDTS, with some consideration for the new Point Profile.
Primary Sponsors, Interested Groups, and Contacts --
The FGDC Cadastral Subcommittee and BLM are the primary sponsors and coordinators for this profile. TRW is also involved in the activity through BLM. Information on the Cadastral Subcommittee efforts toward Cadastral standards is available through the main FGDC web site
Future Plans --
Work on the Cadastral Data Transfer Standard was placed on hold until completion of the
Content Standard for Cadastral Data. The Content Standard for Cadastral Data now has formal FGDC endorsement.
The Content Standard includes circular curves and other curves with constantly changing
direction. These curves are supported in SDTS as "arcs," and are options in the
current TVP but
require redundant coding as lines in a TVP transfer. This means that decoders that do not
support arcs would still be able to decode the information using the redundant lines. This is one
of several issues for developers of the Cadastral Data Transfer Profile.
More information will be available after the September 1997 SDTS workshop presentations by individuals from BLM and TRW.
