SDTS Workshop Results - Technical Session

Speaker: Oscar Franzese and Steve Gordon

Oak Ridge National Laboratories

Topic: A Transportation Profile with GDF Extensions

Email: ofz@ornl.gov And gordonsr@ornl.gov

Oscar Franzese and Steve Gordon discussed an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) profile to SDTS based on the Graphic Data Files (GDF) standard used by ITS vendors in the Europe and the US. GDF will soon be a defacto standard, but may not meet all US public sector, GIS-T, and DOT requirements. SDTS and GDF, and other standards such as DIGEST, may require reconciliation in the future based on international standards work via ISO. GDF information is available at: http://www.intergraph.com/ehq/gdf

Oak Ridge (ORNL) is also developing and seeking comments for an on-line collection of similar transportation data definitions and terms from several common data dictionaries and catalogs of features, attributes, and relationships, including some terms from the FHWA ITS data dictionary and the GDF catalogs. This information compiled by Oscar is at: http://itsdeployment.prg.utk.edu/definitions/
